Protecting your data comprehensively on the internet is quite a tough task. To protect yourself from phishing scams, you must be very careful of disclosing your personal information on the internet. These attacks/scams have now become more sophisticated.
In this article, we have mentioned some steps that will help you protect your data from phishing attacks.
Don’t Click on Hyperlinks within Emails:
Hyperlinks within emails are often cloaked or hidden. Please check if the URL of anchor text is the right one before clicking on it. If you are unclear of the resource of the e-mail, you should not click on those links. Rather, directly type the URL in the address bar of your web browser or call on the verified number of the company. This protects your data from phishing attacks.
Use Personal Firewall and Anti-Virus Software:
Firewall helps you to secure your system in a better manner. It monitors both incoming and outgoing traffic of a computer. So it can protect your system from being compromised. It also blocks unverified programs from accessing the web, such as trojans, worms etc. Besides, anti-virus software also protects your system from viruses. These viruses can gain hold of your personal information in your computer and pass it to fraudsters. So use firewall and anti-virus software and be safe from phishing attacks.
Use Anti-Spam Filter Software:
According to some surveys, 85% off all emails on internet are spam. Anti-Spam filter software can reduce these number of spams and malicious emails. These emails consist of spam links that have some some other landing pages (duplicate/phishing page of a website). So this software can protect you from these spam links and phishing pages.
Let Your Browser Warn You:
It is necessary to use updated version of web browser as it is comparatively secured to the old browser. These browsers come with built in phishing protection system. So you are secured from phishing attacks using the updated web browser.
Always Look for “https” Platform:
Information that is shared between browser and server can be compromised by a third party if ”http” platform is used since it is not a secure platform. So whenever you are submitting your credential information on a website, look for “https://” at the start of URL on the browser’s address bar. The absence of “https” indicates that website is not secure.
Report Suspicious Activity:
If you think an email that you have received is a phishing scam, you should report it. So whenever you get these kind of spam emails, please contact your concerned government department.
